Back in the early eighties, the relatively young bulk bag manufacturing industry was looking for its voice. Specifically, a unified voice to deal with the regulatory bodies that controlled the shipment of products. Since 1983, that voice has been known as the Flexible Intermediate Bulk Container Association (FIBCA). Whose continuing mission is to:
- Motivate customers to use Flexible Intermediate Bulk Containers (FIBC)s to maximize their profitability, safety, and sustainability
- Educate its members about regulations and standards, promote the use of their products, and to be a strong voice for the FIBC industry with regulatory agencies around the world
This year, the membership of FIBCA elected Cindy Finley as its new President. Cindy brings over 40 years of FIBC experience to the table and is the Vice President of B.A.G. Corporation, a founding member of the FIBC Association. Cindy is a well-respected authority and trusted advisor in the FIBC industry and this will mark her second term as President of FIBCA, having previously served in 1989.
Not only were Cindy and B.A.G. Corp. instrumental in the founding of the Association, they have been active in the development and growth of FIBCA and have had a representative from B.A.G. Corp. serving on the Board of Directors since its inception. Over the years, Cindy has seen all of the growing pains the Association has been through: “During my first term as President of FIBCA in 1989, the organization was struggling to exist and trying to define its purpose. We began to solidify our focus with the hiring of a full-time Director in 2005. Since then we have seen membership grow at a significant pace. In addition, the content of our meetings has matured with topics and projects that are very relevant to our industry. My goal as President, this year, is to continue guiding the FIBC Association in this positive direction by encouraging involvement from all members of the Organization, not only the manufacturing and distributing members, but the Associate members as well. Their input is invaluable as they play a very important role by supplying the materials and equipment needed to manufacture quality products. Only by working together can we assure that our products provide value and perform in a consistent manner for our industry.”
The future is looking bright for FIBCA and their new President. The Association just celebrated their 30th Anniversary and currently has 75 member companies located on five continents. Cindy adds, “We expect to continue to grow our organization, but our main focus is to provide an Association that gives value to our customers and our members and can be a strong voice in controlling the future of our industry.”
